Established in 1998 in Agadir, Morocco, AIWO operates in all regions of Africa, advocating for gender equality, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment.

Rights Defense and Promotion
AIWO advocates for the protection and promotion of the rights of Indigenous Women at national, regional, and international levels.
Support for Victims of Violence and Genital Mutilation
The organization works to assist Indigenous Women who are victims of violence, including female genital mutilation, by providing resources, protection, and counseling.
Property Rights
AIWO campaigns for the safeguarding of Indigenous Women’s property rights, ensuring they can secure a better quality of life in their own lands and territories.
Preservation of Indigenous Knowledge and Resources:
AIWO aids Indigenous Women in maintaining their cultural heritage and the use of natural resources in sustainable ways that preserve their communities’ traditional practices
Economic Development
AIWO encourages sustainable economic growth in areas inhabited by Indigenous peoples, including facilitating entrepreneurship and job creation.
Human Rights Training:
AIWO organizes training sessions focused on Human Rights for Indigenous women, empowering them with the knowledge needed to protect and advocate for their own rights.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
Global Engagement:
AIWO members have participated in global forums on issues such as the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), land rights, Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), enhancing the global visibility and advocacy efforts of Indigenous Women.
Increased Funding and Recognition:
AIWO has facilitated funding from various donors, including the Foundation for a Just Society for Indigenous peoples in the Sahel region, and has helped Indigenous Women secure achievement awards for their advocacy work.
Southern Africa Office:
AIWO has successfully established a Southern Africa office, registered it, opened a bank account, and commenced operations in the region. New women and youth groups have joined, expanding the organization’s impact in Southern Africa.
Communication Strategy:
Supporting AIWO has developed a successful communication strategy, including the creation of a WhatsApp group that enables Indigenous people to participate in discussions, share ideas, and exchange experiences. land management and climate change adaptation to protect Indigenous resources.
Expansion of Indigenous Women’s Groups:
New Indigenous Women’s and youth groups have been formed in the areas where we operate.
